THE ILLUSTRATED MARINER'S GAZETTEER
Local & Worldwide Maritime Stories & News.
Written as if it were 1750.
In 1750, discovering the latest news was a different experience from today. Local news was a few days outdated by the time a newspaper was printed, and worldwide news took weeks or months to arrive.
The Boat Cove Chronicle is my take on this historic method of receiving news. It contains local and worldwide stories associated with maritime news, information or history.
In 1750, newspapers often had two names, so The Boat Cove Chronicle has the alternative name of 'The Illustrated Mariner's Gazetteer'.
I research and write the stories from historical references and real news articles, then rewrite them as if they were written in 1750. I also illustrate some of the stories. It is my just-for-fun writing project.
Here, you can read the modern English version of the printed articles.

You can find some of these newspapers in the local areas of Dawlish, Teignmouth, Shaldon, and Starcross in Devon, United Kingdom.
These pages contain the modern British English version of the stories in the Chronicle and the references I have used to write them.
I hope you enjoy reading them. If you had fun, I would really appreciate a donation to the Epilepsy Action charity, which has supported me and my family in coping with my Epilepsy condition.
Thank You.
